Encaustics are becoming more and more popular as you can see by the number of pieces we have in the show.  For those of you who do not know, Encaustic painting uses colored pigments mixed with beeswax.  It is an ancient technique that dates back as far as 100 AD.

At ARTcetera we have  Virginia Morrisseau's Encaustic Painting Kit for sale.  It retails for $90 and includes everything you need to get started in the Cold Method of Encaustic Painting.

With the help of Ted Foss, Virginia has produced an instructional  DVD that takes you through the encaustic process.  In the kit you will also find a pallet knife, premixed encaustic medium, eight oil paints, a brush and 3 - 5" x 7" canvases.  The only thing that you need to have on hand is a blow dryer.  If you run out of the encaustic medium, Virginia takes you through the process of making more.  Intrigued?

Donna Sands: Color Equivalent Painter

Donna Sands A View in Bull Valley oil on panel (10" x 20 1/2" framed) $250

Donna Sands Dusk oil on panel (10" x 20 1/2" framed) $250

Donna Sands of Libertyville, IL loves color, and as a color equivalent painter she uses her passion for color to create a feeling or mood that best describes what she is capturing on canvas.  She prefers to start on location, sketching in bold colors that reflect the essence of what she is viewing.  Back in her studio she develops the images into large works of art.  To view more of Donna's landscapes and to read her blog, please go to http://www.dsandsart.com/

Donna will be exhibiting her work in a Solo Show: September 1 - 30, 2010 at the Old Town Art Center 1763 North Park Avenue Chicago, IL.  Join her for a wine and cheese reception on Sunday September 12 from 1-5 pm.
