Encaustics from the Members Exhibition

Alberto Guerra Bobbie's Lunch encaustic $200

Donna Sands Vessel encaustic $450

Susan Oliver Dahod Seashore II encaustic $130

Virginia Morrisseau Harmony encaustic $500

Shanfun Ching Landscape encaustic $250

Encaustics are becoming more and more popular as you can see by the number of pieces we have in the show.  For those of you who do not know, Encaustic painting uses colored pigments mixed with beeswax.  It is an ancient technique that dates back as far as 100 AD.

At ARTcetera we have  Virginia Morrisseau's Encaustic Painting Kit for sale.  It retails for $90 and includes everything you need to get started in the Cold Method of Encaustic Painting.

With the help of Ted Foss, Virginia has produced an instructional  DVD that takes you through the encaustic process.  In the kit you will also find a pallet knife, premixed encaustic medium, eight oil paints, a brush and 3 - 5" x 7" canvases.  The only thing that you need to have on hand is a blow dryer.  If you run out of the encaustic medium, Virginia takes you through the process of making more.  Intrigued?

Ginny Krueger Untitled, encaustic (40" x 40") NFS

More from the 30th Annual Juried Exhibition for Lake County Artists.  Encaustics, a very time consuming process using beeswax and pigment, produce complex otherworldly images.  A feast for the eyes.
